The Indiana State Referee Association Concludes The 2021 - 2022 Year With 683 Newly Registered Referees

The Indiana State Referee Association, (ISRA) & Indiana Soccer are excited to announce the addition of 149 new referees between the month of June - August 2022.

This comes after the registration of 683 new referees between the period of January – June 2022. During that period at least 41 new referee clinics were held across the state thanks to all the clubs that helped host training clinics and help adding the extra referees.

The conclusion of the 2021 – 2022 soccer year ended June 30, 2022 with 683 new referees is a tremendous milestone & holds a lot of significance considering the high attrition rate the association has faced over the past few years.

The 2023 US soccer year ( registration started July 1, 2022) is already showing some positive gains in the number of new referees that currently stands at 143 new referees. Thanks to the leadership & staff at ISRA, 5 new referee clinics have already been hosted.
Soccer officials have come under distress in the last couple of years that has seen a huge decrease in the number of officials, not only in Indiana, but thought the United States.  The decline has been attributed to several reasons ranging from the Covid-19 pandemic, low morale and also a spike in the percentage of negative side-line etiquette.

A recent survey by the association of its officials showed that a significant percentage of young officials would likely quit due to constant negative side-line etiquette from parents, coaches & even players.
Congratulations to the new officials and we wish them a lot of success in their officiating journey.
