SafeSport Training Update

SafeSport Training | April 20th
Please be aware that the SafeSport® Trained Core and Refresher 1, 2, and 3 courses will be updated on April 20. During that day, SafeSporttrained.org and access to these courses will be unavailable.

If you have started but not yet finished the SafeSport® Trained Core or any Refresher courses: Please complete the in-progress course by April 18 to avoid having to restart the course from the beginning or have their progress reset.

Please note the interruption to Center training access scheduled for April 20 and the deadline of April 18 to complete courses in progress.

This applies both to trainings on SafeSport’s Learning Management System and to the training within the Learning Center.

IS Soccer sent an email went out on Monday, 4/11, to referees in the Learning Center whose SafeSport Training shows as expiring between 4/1/22 and 5/31/22. The email is attached.

SafeSport Training Cadence
US Soccer received questions from referees this week regarding The U.S. Center for Safe Sport and which SafeSport trainings are required. Please be aware of the following:

The U.S. Center for SafeSport was established under the Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017. This act gave The Center the scope and authority to resolve abuse and misconduct reports throughout the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement. It also charged The Center with developing and enforcing policies, procedures, and training to prevent abuse and misconduct.

The Center’s SafeSport Code governs all participants in the Movement, including U.S. Soccer Federation. Under federal law, U.S. Soccer and other NGBs are required to adhere to the SafeSport Training policies.

As part of those prevention policies, adult participants – including referees – are required to complete a yearly SafeSport training to receive and maintain a referee license issued by U.S. Soccer Federation. The course training modules are created and maintained by The Center and are therefore subject to change according to The Center. The current cadence of SafeSport Trainings required for referees is as follows:
· Year 1: Complete SafeSport Training (approx 90 minutes)
· Year 2: Complete Refresher 1 (approx 30 minutes)
· Year 3: Complete Refresher 2 (approx 30 minutes)
· Year 4: Complete Refresher 3 (approx 30 minutes)
· Year 5: Repeat the training starting with Year 1

While The Center does offer other optional trainings, only the trainings listed above are required and accepted as part of your referee license requirements.
