Obituary for Kenneth A. Mather at Matthews Mortuary

Ken (Kenny) Mather, 76, forever youthful, passionate and radiating joy, passed away Friday, November 20th at his home in the company of his loving family.

Born in Thatcham, Royal County of Berkshire, England; Ken immigrated to USA in 1982 in pursuit of the American Dream for his family, which he accomplished.  He was a professional mechanical engineer.  Since a young age, he loved all sports including track and field, cricket, motorcycle trials riding, ice hockey, and soccer... his greatest passion.  Ken was a professional soccer referee for Big Ten, Big East, Conference USA, MCC, MAC, Mid Con, and Missouri Valley Conferences as well as youth leagues where he helped shape the future of young ones and the game he so loved.  He was the Head Coach of Club Carmel Girls (1989 - 1993) and Head Coach of U19 Carmel Sting with 3 consecutive State Championships 1990, 1991, and 1992.  Ken was inducted into the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame in 2003 and the NISOA Soccer Hall of Fame in 2015.  He loved competing, coaching, mentoring, and honored the skill of the game. His last visit to the soccer pitch was on September 26, 2020 to watch Grace, his 6-year old granddaughter play.

Ken is survived by his loving, proud family. His wife of 46 years Christine, daughter Hayley Whorrall, son Lee Mather, and their spouses Robert and Joandri, and brother Raymond Mather and spouse, Joy.
